For a good example of "progressives" rationalizing and defending Neville Chamberlain's and Germany's behavior just prior to WWII:
So, the great appeaser actually turns out to be a sly master of realpolitick.
Is one of the freest kinds of speech in America, for individuals at least.
For organizations it isn't. Because of people like this, it probably won't be for a while.

Actually, I think the only thing that makes this newsworthy is the fact that the establishment Democrats are not supporting the establishment-like Clintons:
Senator Edward M. Kennedy implored Americans on Monday to “reject the counsels of doubt and calculation,” as he extended his endorsement and placed the aura of his family’s name around the presidential candidacy of Senator Barack Obama...Video below the fold...
“He will be a president who refuses to be trapped in the patterns of the past,” Mr. Kennedy said. “He is a leader who sees the world clearly without being cynical. He is a fighter who cares passionately about the causes he believes in, without demonizing those who hold a different view.”
Mr. Kennedy, whose endorsement was aggressively pursued by all the Democratic candidates, praised Mr. Obama’s ability to motivate a new generation of leaders. Not since his brothers, Mr. Kennedy said, has he seen a politician possess the ability to inspire.

Liberals will say that the comparison is unfair, because Mr. Bush is so much worse than Mr. Clinton ever was. Yes, Mr. Clinton may have been imperfect, but Mr. Bush -- whom people on the far left routinely compare to Hitler -- is evil. This of course destroys the liberal stereotype even more eloquently than the data. The very essence of intolerance is to dehumanize the people with whom you disagree by asserting that they are not just wrong, but wicked.

What they criticize Coulter for, they are too quick to engage in.

Pulitzer winning columnist Maureen Dowd wrote a clever piece (well, approaching 5th-grade cleverness), so insightful (pertaining to what the NYT deems printable), and funny (if you hate successful conservative blacks), that this blogger cannot in good conscience ignore.
Dowd writes the entire article from the fictional perspective of Clarence Thomas (clever I told you!), and proceeds to tell a tale of racial betrayal and hypocrisy, while the bestowed authority of Supreme Court Judgeship fertilizes what grows into a massive tyrannical ego. For every ounce of truth there's a pound of satire.
Seriously, I'm not very good at writing satire, but I know it's a good defense for bad opinions. The examples abound, but what disingenuousness the Daily Show can get away with, the New York Times should not. Taking minor amounts of facts and turning them into a political argument, deserves no praise. Though an opinion-piece is just that, opinion, the very purpose thereof, especially when aimed at large audiences, is not entertainment, rather it's persuasion.
Maybe it's because I'm jealous. I mean, I wish I could take cheap shots at prominent figures from behind the impenetrable shield of satire. Or maybe it's because Ms. Dowd couldn't make her implied claims of hypocrisy, racial betrayal, and corruption in an honest fashion subject to scrutiny.
Who knows, with a little work on my satirical skills, I think I'll have a chance at winning a Pulitzer prize.

What does a blogger do on a slow news day?
Usually a quote I thought was interesting will suffice, sometimes just a link to what everybody else is talking about, but now and then I'll check up on our communist friends in Latin America.
Today I'll focus on the international metrosexual, the increasingly ambiguously heterosexual Hugo Chavez. Just look at that chemistry.
Not to be outdone by his Iranian affaire de l'amour who is cleansing the curriculum in universities, Chavez will take it a step further:
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez threatened on Monday to close or take over any private school that refuses to submit to the oversight of his socialist government as it develops a new curriculum and textbooks. The Revolución is near complete. Soon the working class of Venezuela will, whether they like it or not, be forced to know that they can't succeed in life because the wealthy and imperialists are keeping them down. After all, perceived wealthy job-providing oppressors are always more dangerous than the state.
"Society cannot allow the private sector to do whatever it wants," said Chavez, speaking on the first day of classes.
All schools, public and private, must admit state inspectors and submit to the government's new educational system, or be closed and nationalized, with the state taking responsibility for the education of their children, Chavez said.
A new curriculum will be ready by the end of this school year, and new textbooks are being developed to help educate "the new citizen," said Chavez's brother and education minister Adan Chavez

I've been getting some traffic for a story I half heartedly commented on months ago, the Copenhagen riots.
So I googled it, and sure enough, the anarchist/communist punks, six months after their first rioting, are back at it.
From Reuters:
More than 50 people were arrested early on Sunday after clashes with police in central Copenhagen during the night where demonstrators threw stones and bottles and set fire to garbage containers. In a quote from the AP report, these leftists were simply marking the sixth anniversary in order to "show they've not forgotten..."More than 1,000 demonstrators gathered in the multi-ethnic, working class Norrebro neighbourhood to protest the demolition of a youth centre six months ago, police said.
When the protesters turned violent, set fires and started looting shops, police responded with tear gas.
The only reason I'm blogging about her is because I felt the urge to Google her name after the recent news about her and Sheryl Crow getting into it with Karl Rove at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. And no, I won't talk about that incident.
But I did find something interesting on her blog at HuffPo.
She criticizes Rush Limbaugh for pretty much being an idiot about global warming. But au contraire, Ms. David is the one who speaks without thinking:
Global warming causes extreme weather in BOTH directions. For example, the reason the blizzards are getting worse in the Northeast is because the Great Lakes are no longer freezing over...So if the Great Lakes no longer freeze over, what the hell do you call this?

The best post marking our 4 years in Iraq, in my opinion, is the one by Gerard Van der Leun at American Digest.
It's almost a tear jerker, because you know the fragility of our strength. I'd quote some, but it wouldn't do justice. Read it.

Or anti-capitalism, or is that one in the same nowadays? This is the third night in a row for these riots. Apparently, getting a year's notice to move out so the rightful owners can move in, is just asking too much...
The unrest stems from the eviction of squatters from a building that authorities say had become a hangout for anarchists, punk rockers and hippies. And from Sky News:
Police say more than 600 people have been arrested since the protests began last Thursday, including 140 foreigners from Europe and the US.
The Copenhagen riots have drawn leftist sympathizers who view it as part of a wider struggle against capitalism.
Across the city, groups of protesters set fire to rubbish bins, while others ransacked a school and hurled chairs, desks and computers onto the street.
The eviction had been planned since last year, when courts ordered the squatters to hand the building over to a Christian congregation that had bought it six years ago.
I'm frankly too tired to post on it in depth, probably for the better, but I was just so amazed to see such a high-profile idiot like Wesley Clark have the balls to position himself as the next anti-war Messiah. No not for this war, but the next one: The war with Iran.
It's risky for him to do this, I mean this war could just as well be Hillary's war. But for a guy like Wes, it was Bush's foreign policy that inspired Ahmadinejad to develop nukes, inspired Russia, China, and France to obstruct any real resolution, and inspired the trademark superficiality of UN ultimatums. For a guy like Wes, being the figurehead of the next big anti-war movement is a step in the door to the presidency. Where there's a war, there's a way... right Wes?
Oh, almost forgot, his fabulous video below the fold...
Maybe Wes is on to something. He's got the Iran war, so I'll take... China: StopChinaWar.com coming soon.
What the rightosphere's been buzzing about today, is Bill Maher's ridiculous comments on Dick Cheney's near miss. Not surprisingly, he gets the laughter from his audience, and if you look closely, nodding approval from his guest, Representative Barney Frank.
Video is from Ms.Underestimated and is below the fold.

Poor Al, the monumental rise to the top of radio was for naught.
From Fox News:
Air America Radio, a liberal talk radio network, said Monday that it had reached a tentative agreement to be sold to the founder of a New York area real estate company. The network also said that Al Franken, its longtime headline personality, would depart next month.I'm sure there will be others who will try and follow Franken searching for that mysterious liberal listener niche. Hopefully, they'll employ more ethical means of acquiring income.

Still busy, but thought this would brighten your day:
There's only one thing wrong with democracy... it requires people.MEXICO CITY - Fistfights and shoving matches broke out in the Mexican Congress Tuesday after leftist lawmakers, hoping to block the inauguration of conservative President-elect Felipe Calderon, stormed the podium and tried to seize control of the chamber.
Conservatives, surrounded by security guards, pushed back the protesting lawmakers and vowed to keep order until they formally bestow the presidential sash on Calderon in a ceremony in the Chamber of Deputies this Friday.
The fisticuffs underscore the deep well of bitterness that remains after the closest and most hotly contested presidential race in modern Mexican history and highlight the possibility that Friday's ceremony will be marred by violence.
Members of the leftist Party of the Democratic Revolution, or PRD, claim Calderon, a member of the National Action Party, or PAN, stole the July election.
"We're not going to allow this inauguration to happen," said Roberto Lopez, a PRD spokesman. "Felipe Calderon will not govern a single day in this country."

Hugo Chavez's campaign strategy:
Venezuela's leftist President Hugo Chavez on Sunday promised hundreds of thousands of supporters he would win a resounding victory in his December 3 reelection bid he describes as a challenge to Washington. But why does it have a similar ring to those of some of our patriotic Democrats?"We are confronting the devil, and we will hit a home run off the devil next Sunday," said Chavez, who ruffled feathers in October by calling President Bush the devil in remarks at the United Nations.
"On December 3 we're going to defeat the most powerful empire on earth by knockout," Chavez said.

From Reuters:
The leftist 60-year-old won Sunday's presidential election to complete a remarkable comeback 16 years after he was thrown out by voters tired of a vicious decade-long civil war between his Marxist government and U.S.-backed Contra rebels. It's been a good day for Leftists.
